Abstract Submission Guidelines

Multi-sectoral convergence

Two categories of abstract will be considered for the National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH).

Category 1: Scientific Research Category 2: Public Health Practice
For reporting scientific and public health evaluations as well as operational research. Abstracts in Category 1 should be as follows:
  • Background: Context and challenge addressed by the research, study objectives, study question.
  • Design/Methods: Setting, sample size, sampling technique, study participants, procedures and techniques, statistical analysis.
  • Results: Specific findings to date.
  • Conclusions: Implications of the results, key recommendations.
For reporting experiences in overcoming policy or programme barriers and demonstrating best practices in implementing programme. Abstracts in Category 2 should be as follows:
  • Background and challenges to implementation: Context and the specific challenges to programme/ policy implementation. It may also includes target population(s), geographic sites/locations and scale and type of activity or service.
  • Intervention or response: How was the challenge overcome-Methods, activities and implementation steps used to overcome the challenge?, Methods, procedures and techniques used to collect and analyse information that informed your conclusions.
  • Results and lessons learnt: Result and impact of the project,What worked and what did’nt?
  • Conclusions: Public health practice implications of the results, key recommendations, Potential application/ sustainability


  • All abstract submissions must be made electronically through conference online abstract submission system. You need to create an account and register as a user on this site before submitting an abstract if you are a first-time user of the submission platform.
  • The abstract text should not exceed 300 words. Abstracts of more than the allocated words will be truncated.
  • A maximum of 5 authors are acceptable, presenting author can be any one of them. Please submit the abstract ONLY if at-least one of the authors intends to attend the conference to present it after its acceptance.
  • The presenting author is responsible for the abstract content. S/he is the contact person for submission and communication purposes and is also responsible for disseminating information related to the abstract to the co-authors.
  • All accepted abstracts will be included in the Abstract Book. The Abstract Book will be made available online for download from the website at the conclusion of the conference.
  • The abstracts must present original research and at least preliminary results; abstracts reporting data pending will not be accepted. Submission implies that the material has not previously been presented elsewhere before presentation at the 5th National Conference on Tobacco or Health. However, the data can be already published or considered under publication.
  • Notification regarding acceptance or rejection of abstracts will be sent to the presenting author along with further details for presentation by 15th June, 2020 by email. If your abstract is accepted, the email will specify whether it is accepted as oral, or poster presentation. If you have not received an email notification by the said date, contact Conference Secretariat at nctoh2020@gmail.com
  • Accepted Abstract/Paper shall be included for oral or poster presentation in the Conferenceonly if the full registration fee is received by the Secretariat by 15th July, 2020.
  • Abstract Committee reserves the right not to publish abstracts that do not fit into any of the review categories, abstracts that inappropriately promote commercial interests, abstracts that are judged unethical, poorly written, or scientifically unsound, or abstracts considered inappropriate for publication for other reasons as determined by the Abstract Committee.
